Hi, Todd! Good article but I took exception to two of your points.

You’re absolutely right. The Electoral College cannot be abolished by petitioning. However, the EC can be reformed. In fact, a movement to reform the Electoral College is already underway. Proponents of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact have already convinced ten states and the District of Columbia to sign on to the compact. Under the compact, states would award their Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote — not the winner of an individual state. NPVIC would eliminate situations where a candidate wins the popular vote but doesn’t win the election. And because NPVIC is adopted at a state level, there is no need for a Constitutional amendment.

There is currently a petition afoot to push state legislators in non-NPVIC states to adopt the initiative.

Second, you stated that most of the people who voted for Trump are not racist/sexist/homophobic/Islamplophobic/xenophobic, etc. Maybe not but anyone who voted for someone who spent fifteen months making racist/sexist/homophobic/Islamophobic/xenophobic statements is okay with those prejudices. And, yes, people should be held accountable for being “okay with” the oppression of others.
