Joe Biden Is Still Canceled, Part 2: The Non-Verbal “No”
Fact: Humans didn’t always talk. At some point in human history, humans developed a genetic mutation (or maybe several) that allowed speech. However, it still took time for humans to develop spoken language. This is why humans still pay more attention to non-verbal communication than verbal communication--especially when non-verbal cues don’t match up with the spoken word.
Why am I telling you this?
I feel compelled to report this fact because too many Biden-stans are criticizing Lucy Flores, a former politician from Nevada, for not saying “no" to Joe Biden after he allegedly sniffed her hair and kissed the top of her head at a campaign rally in 2014. For whatever reason, too many of Biden’s defenders seem to think that women cannot signal a lack of consent with body language alone.
This is a crock. As I wrote three paragraphs ago, humans (and that included women humans) didn’t always talk. Does that mean that our prehistoric female ancestors always tolerated inappropriate/unnecessary touching because they couldn’t verbalize their lack of consent?
Hell, no!
By scowling/sneering/shaking our heads at, fleeing from, flinching/cringing away from men who touched them, our prehistoric female ancestors very clearly said “no" to men who encroached on their personal space. (A few of our more assertive female ancestors may have hit, shoved, or even brandished weapons against “handsy" men.) And our prehistoric male ancestors…
