I had never heard of Eric Swalwell before he announced his presidential run in April of this year. That being said, who is Eric Swalwell?
Eric Swalwell was born in Sac City, Iowa on November 16, 1980. His family later moved to Dublin, California. Swalwell attended the University of Maryland, earning a bachelor’s degree in government and politics. Swalwell then went onto the University of Maryland School of Law, graduating in 2006.
After law school, Swalwell returned to Dublin and was hired as a deputy DA in Alameda County, a position previously held by another Democratic 2020 hopeful, Kamala Harris. According to the Alameda County Deputy DA, Swalwell, who worked for the office from 2006 to 2012, prosecuted thousands of cases involving domestic violence, murder, human trafficking, and hate crimes. While working as a prosecutor, Swalwell won a conviction against Dreshawn Jackson, a man who shot another man to death with a semiautomatic assault rifle in a revenge killing. In 2012, he prosecuted a California State University student from Berkeley for sending death threats through the mail to an Oakland-based minister from the Nation of Islam.
