Vetting” is a series of essays that will provide in-depth analysis of the records of the more overlooked 2020 Democratic candidates.

John Delaney

The first time I heard the name “John Delaney” was during a news report that listed all the Democratic candidates for president. The second time I heard the name was after he got booed off the stage--by Democrats--last month at the California Democratic Convention.

I still didn’t know anything about his political record--or anything else about him for that matter. That said, who is John Delaney?

John Delaney was born in New Jersey on April 16, 1963. After high school, Delaney attended Columbia University, graduating in 1985. He then went onto Georgetown University Law Center and graduated in 1988.

Delaney was hired by the law firm Shaw, Pittman, Potts, & Trowbridge after graduation. Motivated by “the desire to get out of the practice of law,” Delaney and two former classmates from law school bought a home health company, American Home Therapies, in 1990.
