Warren Blundered By Not Calling For Trump’s Suspension From Twitter

If you watched the Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday, then you most likely witnessed the tense exchange between Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). Harris, who had already called upon Twitter to suspend Donald Trump’s account over his repeated violations of the social media platform’s terms of use, expressed surprise and dismay that Warren did not agree that Trump’s Twitter account needed to be shuttered.

Kamala Harris then reminded everyone that Trump has 65 million Twitter followers and that he has used his account to “openly intimidate witnesses, to threaten witnesses, to obstruct justice.” Harris then pointed out that the perpetrator of the mass shooting in El Paso in August, a shooting that wounded or killed nearly fifty people, “was informed by how Donald Trump uses that platform [Twitter].”

Warren — who smirked, took notes, and avoided eye contact during Harris’ remarks — stated that she was less interested in pushing Trump off Twitter than in pushing him out of the White House. When pressed further, Warren flatly refused to call on Twitter to suspend Trump’s account.

Once my blood pressure dropped a little, I realized that I had actually missed the point of the actual exchange. Kamala Harris hadn’t actually been seeking Elizabeth Warren’s support. For that matter, Harris most likely was not even expressing sincere hurt or surprise in Warren’s lack of consistency in regards to her stances on social…
