What Bernie Sanders Gets Wrong About Bigotry and Economic Inequality

Bernie Sanders likes to do this thing where someone asks him how he plans to improve race relations in the United States and he immediately turns the conversation around to economic inequality. An example:

Do blacks and other people of color experience higher rates of poverty than white people? Of course. But what Sanders seems not to understand is that income inequality and racism, while being linked, are still discrete entities. Ensuring income equality won’t eradicate systemic racial prejudice and discrimination.
